MARCH 31, 2021 | DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP FOR REMOTE LEARNING PROGRAM EXPANDS TO INCLCUDE MENTORSHIP AND NETWORKING 

Following the graduation of one hundred forty school leaders from across the state in the inaugural cohort of Distinguished Leadership in a Remote Learning Environment (DLR), the North Carolina Principals & Assistant Principals’ Association (NCPAPA) is expanding its program to include mentorship and peer networking.  Through funding from the North Carolina State Employee’s Credit Union Foundation (NCSECU), and in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), NCPAPA will establish the Distinguished Practitioners Network (DPN).  The DPN will focus initially on North Carolina’s highest needs districts to provide support for principals through ongoing virtual networks led by school leaders with proven, evidenced-based school results over time in high-needs schools.  Read More













OCTOBER 20, 2020 | DLP ALUMNI SHOW A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF SCHOOLS MEETING OR EXCEEDING STUDENT GROWTH EXPECTATIONS 
Principals participating in DLP report high levels of satisfaction on all aspects of the program as do their superintendents who supervise them. Additionally, an analysis based on the student growth status of schools showed that schools of the 150 DLP[SP1]  alumni principals who remained in their same schools after their participation in the program showed a higher percentage of schools meeting or exceeding student growth expectations when compared to statewide averages.  Read More


OCTOBER 15, 2020 | ​NCSSA & NCASLD ANNOUNCE RECIPIENTS OF DR. SAMUEL HOUSTON Jr. LEADERSHIP AWARD

The North Carolina School Superintendents' Association (NCSSA) and the North Carolina Alliance for School Leadership Development (NCASLD) has announced the selection of the following as the recipients of the Dr. Samuel Houston Jr. Leadership Award; Dr. Frank Creech, Chief Academic Officer, Greene County Schools; Dr. Michael Myrick, Assistant Superintendent, Granville County Schools; Dr. Theresa Perry, Director of Professional Development, Cumberland County Schools; and Dr. La'Ronda Whiteside, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Hickory City Schools. This annual award is presented to graduates of the North Carolina School Superintendents' Association and the North Carolina Alliance for School Leadership Development's Aspiring Superintendent Program, a program which is designed to empower transformational education leaders for North Carolina’s public schools. Read More
